A busy weekend at Oakmere
Saturday sees Woodford 2nds as the visitors and on Sunday the Women’s final home game of the season is against champions-elect Chester Boughton Hall. An improving weather forecast should allow both games to go ahead on Overdale Lane’s quick draining surface.
The 1st XI travel to Woodford hoping to continue their recent good form, another win on Saturday could put them right back in the mix for the second promotion place.
Last Week’s News
A 50 point Saturday boosted morale with the first team winning a local derby at Winnington Park by 5 wickets. Nick Guest picked up 3 wickets as only 2 batsmen reached double figures in Park’s 173 for 7. Craig Phelan (42) and Harrison Jones (53) laid the foundations in reply and Dan Wood (40no) and Nick Guest (20no) saw us home.
The seconds at home to a depleted Hale Barns had an easier day of it, bowling Barns out for 95 with 3 wickets each for Dan Gibbon & Mike Cushion and James Hodkinson picking up his first 2 Saturday wickets. Henry Wilson-Theaker’s 50no off 24 balls, ably supported by James Norton (25no) saw victory completed in less than 20 overs.
Unfortunately the Women’s Team, shorn of 9 players were no match for Didsbury’s all-stars in their T20 Cup final on Sunday, losing by 9 wickets.
Chairman’s XI v President’s XI
Phil Guest’s Chairman’s XI duly extracted a revenge victory over Tony Newall’s President’s XI on a day when the result was secondary (except to Phil) to the pleasure of welcoming old friends to the club. A father & son theme ran through the sides with Nortons, Youngs, Groves’, Pickerings, Guests, Newalls, Karas and Hutchinsons represented by at least two generations. A charity guest beer and collection raised £120 which will be donated to Macmillan.
The Under 11s have qualified for their cup final, which is scheduled for the 11th September, after the school summer holidays.
We run 2 Senior Men’s teams in the Cheshire Cricket League, a Ladies team in the Cheshire Women’s Cricket League, junior sides from Under 11 to Under 15 and a midweek T20 side comprising mostly Under 21 players. We are currently developing a programme for younger children aged 5 to 8.
