Oakmere U15’s (121/5) vs Lymm Oughtrington Park U15’s (118/6) – Oakmere won by 5 wickets
Oakmere’s U15’s hosted Lymm Oughtrington Park in the semi finals of the North Cheshire Junior Cricket League Cup on Wednesday.
The visitors won the toss and elected to bat first, getting off to a solid start but Oakmere did not let the scoring rate get away from them. Jimmy Sidebottom (1/13) made the initial breakthrough with the score on 58. Brandon Jones (1/13) followed this up when the score was on 90. With a platform set and wickets in hand, Lymm looked well set to increase the scoring rate at the tail end of the innings, but Oakmere fought back really well with tidy spells from Jack Pickering (2/14) and Will Hardie (1/10). A Jimmy Sidebottom run out also applied the brakes as Lymm finished their innings on a good total of 118/6.
Jack Pickering (9) and Will Hardie (8) got Oakmere off to a steady start with the bat, scoring 19 in the first three overs before both were dismissed in the fourth over. Jack Paget added a quick 7, but was caught at point to make it 29/3. Jimmy Sidebottom and Brandon Jones then batted intelligently together, pushing the score on nicely. Jimmy reached the retirement score of 30 and was replaced by George Warburton who carried on where Jimmy had left off. George fell for 19 to a brilliant caught and bowled but by this point the score had risen to 107. Corey Lewis (9) took a few balls to get set, but then hit back to back boundaries to settle any nerves and take Oakmere to the brink of victory. Harry Peters struck his first ball for four to secure the victory for Oakmere with an over to spare.
A great win for the whole squad to celebrate which earns them a place in the final which will be hosted at Oakmere on Sunday 7th September. Time and opposition to be confirmed.
