Hale Barns 2s, 111 all out lost to Oakmere, 113 for 4 by 6 wickets.
The 2s extended their winning run to 3 matches as their depleted side was too strong for Hale Barns.
Winning the toss (that’s twice now) the skipper had no hesitation in asking the hosts to bat and Oakmere’s father & son opening attack of the ‘Nockers’, Andy & Dave soon had Barns in trouble at 8 for 3. We were then held up by a patient rebuilding job from Barns’ skipper Tom Entwhistle (33) and Tom Saddington (29) , aided by an unusually poor fielding display which saw at least 10 chances missed (no names, you know who you are, but it’s unusual to say the least when James Williams shows up the rest of the catching!). Once Dangerous hung on to a good one off his dad’s bowling the flood gates opened and Eddie worked his old magic finishing with 4 for 29 as Dave again, Jonesy, Pete and Andy held catches. Only Hassan Azhar (18) reached double figures before being run out by Jonesy (never run on a dropped catch at slip!) as Barns’ subsided to 111 all out. The other wickets were shared around as both Nockers picked a couple and Cushy one.
Our reply got off to a bizarre start as Pete hit his second ball straight up in the air, only for the bowler to charge in and take out the keeper just as he was about to catch the ball. With the ball and both players on the deck, Ciaran tapped Pete on the shoulder and suggested he take a run. Befuddled by it all Pete was bowled in the next over with the score on 3, but nerves in the dressing room were settled by a patient partnership of 67 for the second wicket between Ciaran (38) and James W (37no) in 24 overs. Having almost completed the job we then gave Barns hope with Ciaran, Jonesy and Nick all falling with 25 runs still needed, but the ‘all-rounder’ saw us home in company with James in the 43rd over with no further loss, Dave finishing on 11no.
Hale Barns 3pts, Oakmere 25pts
