Oakmere 2nd XI, 214 for 8 in 45 overs, drew with Lymm OP 85 for 8 in 45 overs.
The 2s first game back in Division A ended in frustration as Lymm OP held out for a draw in a game they dominated from start to finish.
Pete Jones having lost the toss we were put in to bat on a wicket described by the opposition as ‘green but hard’. Pete Lee (87) started where he left off last season, his opening partnership with Ciaran McDonnell (38 on debut as opener) of 76 in 17 overs putting us firmly in charge. Guy and Nick fell fairly swiftly, but MS and Pete took us to almost 150 before Pete got a bit carried away with Jonesy’s instruction to ‘walk if you hit it to save your mates the embarassment’ by embarrassing himself. When Doddy fell for 14 and Matt W for 1 the innings was in danger of tailing off, but the unlikely pairing of Dave Norton (25 not out from a nosebleed inducing number 6) and the skipper with a quickfire 22 (from 20 balls) took the total past 200 with a 56 run partnership.
Lymm’s reply began slowly as the young opening attack of Dave Norton and Matt Worsdale proved difficult to score off. With a bit of luck and better catching both could have finished with more than the 1 wicket between them. Ciaran, as first change, chipped in with a wicket and created a difficult chance for his brother that led to a comedy run out as Dangerous reacted quickest to the loose ball. Reaching halfway at 40 for 2 it was apparent that Lymm were only focussed on survival Oakmere’s change bowlers kept up the pressure and wickets started to fall as the experienced trio of Cush (2 for 7), Peter Hutch (2 for 17) and Guy (1 for 5) chipped away at the middle order. An experienced 6th wicket pair Melia & Chatterjee proved the stumbling block as their 22 run partnership lasted 9 overs and despite a late flurry of wickets Lymm held on at 85 for 8.
OCC 14 points, Lymm OP 4 points.
