Match Abandoned due to rain
– Oakmere 2nd XI 104 for 4 (35.2 overs) v Mobberley
The 2s winning streak was lost to the weather as no further play was possible after a torrential downpour.
In the absence of Jonesy, MS proved unsuccessful with the toss and we were asked to bat.
Missing Ciaran (broken wrist – don’t ask!) Pete & James W opened and Pete’s run of being bowled for not many continued. James & the Goat then resisted the experienced Mobberley opening attack for 12 overs before Jimmy was bowled by the first change bowler for 16. Henry played himself in carefully and with James doubled the score before James (17) was caught wafting at a wide one. Nick and H then upped the scoring tempo until Nick got one that stopped and bounced and gloved it to the keeper for 9. MS was playing a captain’s innings with 16 off 18 when the rain arrived bang on schedule at 4 o’clock, H being unbeaten on a classy 36. James Hodkinson had an unusual debut in that he only got on the pitch as a fielding substitute for Mobberley.
By the time the covers were on all concerned were soaked to the skin and a couple of the used wickets had turned to slippery mud with the force of the rain. After taking an early tea we hung around for a while in the hope that the rain might stop, but were eventually forced to abandon the game and watch the football.
Oakmere 7 points, Mobberley 7 points.
