Woodford 2nd XI, 71 all out, lost to Oakmere 2nd XI 72 for 2 by 8 wickets
The 2s went top of Division A as they made it 4 wins in 4 with a comprehensive victory at Woodford .
Jonesy seems to have got the hang of winning the toss and not surprisingly asked Woodford to bat.
Matt & Dave took it in turns to remove Woodford’s top order. Matt comprehensively bowled their Cheshire Women’s player Ellie Barker on his way to 2 for 14 and Dangerous interspersed wild wides and intemperate language with sharp wicket-taking deliveries to finish with 2 for 26. Cush (4 for 10) & Groover (2 for 19) then worked their way through the rest, aided by stunning close catches from Jonesy (2) and Groover himself and a smart stumping from Jimmy (when he stopped flirting with the batting). Despite a last wicket partnership of 21, Woodford were hustled out for 71 in 28 overs as only the experienced M. Walker with 20 and youngster Hope Anderson with 12 reached double figures.
After a superb tea, we set out confidently but were pegged back to 15 for 2 as Ciaran timed his first ball beautifully, but straight into the hands of short cover and Pete (after a bat change) was bowled by the experienced Williams. Jimmy & Al Wood resisted Woodfords efforts to capitalise on the breakthrough with a patient undefeated stand of 57 to see us home with only two wickets down, Nocker finishing 28no and Al 22no. Highlights included Jimmy’s 4 over long on and Al’s brutal pull through midwicket off the (alleged) spinner.
