Oakmere CC v Port Sunlight CC – 30th April 2016
A day to forget for the team, who couldn’t take advantage of others being rained of, and were second best against newly promoted Port Sunlight.
Phelan followed on from last week, on par with previous skipper Paul Yearsley, and lost another toss. The opposition again invited Oakmere to bat in helpful conditions. Only three players made double figures, and a top score of 18, Oakmere were dismissed for 79 in the 36th over. Whilst some players were disappointed with decisions on the field, there were too many not taking responsibility and gifting their wickets with loose strokeplay, when another 40 runs would’ve given them a potentially defendable total. Port Sunlight remained patient and hit good lengths. Taylor Cox was the star with the ball and finished with 5-19.
A short 5 over spell before tea proved fruitless, and tea was taken with Port Sunlight 23-0. The introduction of Dan Gibbon after tea gave Oakmere a slight chance, dismissing McPherson and Jones in consecutive overs but it was too little, too late and it was again Taylor Cox who was Oakmere’s tormenter and who finished the game off with an unbeaten 24, and reached 82-3 inside 25 overs.
Oakmere 1 point, Port Sunlight 25 points
