21st May – Prestbury Away
Rain cut short Oakmere’s chances of victory, but another strong batting display secured maximum batting points for the third game from four this season. Another toss lost from Phelan (4 from 4) and Oakmere found themselves batting again, in bowler friendly conditions.
We only lasted an over before the rain came down, but Alex Hodges still managed to present an opportunity to the home side, but the square leg fielder was unable to take advantage of the gift bestowed to be him by the opening batsmen.
Approximately an hour was lost, and the game reduced to 39 overs a side.
Phelan and Hodges made a quick start, punishing some loose bowling from the Prestbury opening pair. Boundaries were coming regularly, the rain had done little to slow the outfield. Phelan found the tennis court on numerous occasions, and the pair put on 81 for the first wicket before Hodges fell.
Another short rain delay reduced to game to 37 overs each, and the runs continued to flow. Lyons came and went, and Phelan was joined by Jones. The pair put on 118 for the 3rd wicket, 10 sixes split between the pair.
The skipper reached his maiden ton for the first team in quick time, and eventually fell for 117, including 13 boundaries, 6 sixes and 2 broken bats. A fine knock! Jones was dismissed for a fine 64, before being followed by James Norton and Adrian Stubbs and a declaration with the score on 224 in less than 35 overs.
During the tea interval the rains came, and only ceased once time had expired.
