Last week stand sees Oakmere home in a very tight finish.
Phelan won the toss and asked the visitors to bat first on a lovely day at Overdale Lane. The visitors got off to a decent start before Matt Norton found a little bit of something from the wicket, and found the gap between Tom Livesley. Norton then had the overseas caught at gully, a sharp chance snaffled by Dan Wood after a spell of consolidation by the Prestbury top order.
Slow bowler Groves was introduced just after drinks and wickets then proceeded to tumble. He had the number 4 and opener caught in successive deliveries. Guest then get in on the action at the other end, picking up a couple of wickets of his own. Groves snaffled a couple more (finished with 5-31) before Dave Norton picked up number 11 and Prestbury were bowled out for 120 in 45th over.
Tremendous performance in the field, with the Oakmere outfield at its brutally quick best.
Oakmere started badly, losing Stubbs in the first over. Phelan and Wood followed suit a couple of overs later. All three being bowled.
Youngster McDonnell joined Lyons at the crease the two made decent progress, before a lapse in concentration cost the youth his wicket. Encouraging signs non-the-less. Guest came and went and his retched form with the bat continued. Groves didn’t last too much longer either.
Dave Norton steadied the ship, with Lyons going nicely at the other end, seemingly set to see the home side to victory before Lyons was adjusted LBW having just reached his 50.
Dan Faulkner joined Norton at the crease and continued to tick the runs over before Norton was dismissed with still 25 to get.
Brother Matt didn’t last very long (1 legal delivery) before he was marching back to the pavilion deciding to get it over and done with but failed to connect properly with his aggressive stroke!
The best number 11 in the league joined Faulkner and two knocked the runs off with 5 overs to spare. It wasn’t without incident with a strong appeal for a caught behind turned down, and then dropping Faulkner two balls later, it could’ve been very different.
Lyons 50 almost never was, having been dropped on zero. Small margins with big points impacts.
On to Park next week!
Oakmere 25 points, Prestbury 8.
